Entergy Texas has disclosed plans to build a 1.21GW Orange County Advanced Power Station in Texas, which is a dual-fuel combined cycle power generation facility. The Entergy subsidiary said it has initiated the approval process for the power plant, which is expected to address the growing power demand in southeastern Texas.
The company will submit a request to the Texas Public Utilities Commission in the coming months to approve the planned power plant near Bridge City. With the approval of the committee, the construction of the Orange County Advanced Power Station will begin in the second quarter of 2023.
Entergy Texas expects dual-fuel combined cycle power generation facilities to begin operations in the summer of 2026. In order to operate with a combination of natural gas and hydrogen, the Entergy power plant will be able to meet the electricity needs of more than 230,000 households. Sallie Rainer, President and CEO of Entergy Texas, said: "The Orange County Advanced Power Station is a project for a Texas customer. The addition of this facility will continue to provide reliable, low-cost, and clean Energy’s work and will provide customers with more than $1.5 billion in net income by reducing reliance on the energy market."
According to an analysis by professional services company TXP, the Orange County power plant is estimated to create more than 7,000 direct jobs in Texas. In addition, the power plant is expected to bring about 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in boost to the regional economy. Entergy Texas also stated that hydrogen is widely used by many of its large industrial customers and other customers in other industrial processes. According to the company, hydrogen can be stored in facilities near the proposed power plant, including its own Spindletop storage facility.

Rainer added: "Our area is home to hydrogen producers, pipelines, storage, and industrial users. We look forward to working with industry partners to discuss how the Orange County advanced power station will provide reliable power while meeting the sustainable development of customers and communities. The role played on the demand side and the construction of Southeast Texas into a global hydrogen production and hydrogen production center.” Earlier in 2021, Entergy commissioned 993MW Montgomery County to generate electricity in Willis, Texas. stand.Editor/Baohongying
