The project is funded by the Asian Development Bank and the French Development Agency, and the owner is the Sri Lanka Water Authority. The project is to lay submarine and land water supply pipelines between the urban area of Jaffna and the islands, and build three reservoirs. The scope of work involves the laying of submarine pipelines, and the construction is difficult. During the implementation of the project, CMEC and its local partners, with their rich construction experience and excellent project management capabilities, overcame the Easter terrorist attacks that shocked the world and the new crown epidemic that swept the world, and achieved the project a complete success.
This project is CMEC's first Asian Development Bank project in Sri Lanka, and CMEC is also the first Chinese company to participate in the construction of a water supply project in the Jaffna area. In the international bidding project, CMEC finally stood out from many companies. As CMEC’s first ADB project in Sri Lanka, the Jaffna project has accumulated experience in international bidding, project management, localized operations, and talent training, laying a good foundation for continuing to explore the international market. At the same time, it is in understanding the needs of the local market, its own and Based on the advantages of partners, the implementation of the project in the form of a consortium is another breakthrough that the team has made in the localization development of Sri Lanka.
Jaffna was once a war zone of Sri Lanka’s civil war. Years of war have led to the backward infrastructure in the area, especially the lack of basic water supply facilities. During the dry season, the rivers in the Jaffna area will stop flowing, and it is not easy for the local people to obtain clean drinking water. Due to the lack of stable and reliable drinking water, some beautiful islands in the Jaffna area are still uninhabited.
