Indonesian regulator SKK Migas has approved the Ubadari oil field and the Vorwata Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Development Plan (POD) of the Donggu LNG Project.

It is estimated that the new development project will recover an additional 1.3 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas from the Ubadari and Vorwata gas fields. Production at the Ubadari oil field will be carried out through a normal unmanned installation (NUI) connected to the offshore pipeline of the Donggu facility.

The Vorwata CCUS development involves the injection of nearly 25 million tons of carbon dioxide into the Vorwata reservoir to avoid carbon emissions and provide incremental natural gas production through enhanced natural gas recovery (EGR). Ubadari oil field development and Vorwata CCUS front-end engineering and design (FEED) are expected to begin in mid-2022, subject to further approval from Tangguh Partners and SKK Migas. The project is expected to go live in 2026 after the final investment decision.

The project partners stated: “We will contribute to the significant reduction of emissions through the Donggu project, which is consistent with the Indonesian government’s efforts to fulfill its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitments under the Paris Agreement. Strategic project."

The Tangguh LNG project is located in Papua Barat, Indonesia, and is operated by BP Berau on behalf of other production sharing contract partners as a contractor of SKK Migas. BP Berau and its subsidiary in Indonesia own 40.22% of the project.

At present, Donggu is Indonesia's largest natural gas production field, with daily natural gas production of 1.4 billion cubic feet (Bcf). The Tangguh LNG plant has two LNG production lines and one production line under construction3. After completion, the total capacity of the facility is expected to increase to 2.1Bcf per day.Editor/Baohongying
