Swiss offshore drilling contractor Transocean has won a firm contract worth US$252 million from BOE Exploration & Production for the construction of its new ultra-deepwater drilling vessel called Deepwater Atlas. The company said that the contract includes a mobilization fee of US$30 million and provides an important opportunity for performance bonuses based on agreed operational indicators.

Transocean President and CEO Jeremy Thigpen said: "For Transocean's partners, this is an important milestone because we have jointly entered the new field of ultra-deepwater drilling. We are very pleased to have won the first contract of Deepwater Atlas; The first of our two 8th-generation ultra-deepwater drilling ships will enter the market in 2022, and both ships will be equipped with 20,000 psi ultra-deepwater well operations."

The ultra-deepwater drilling project is planned to be carried out in two phases. The initial drilling is expected to take approximately 255 days and the contract drilling revenue is close to US$80 million. After the initial drilling plan is completed, it is planned to install a 20000psi blowout preventer on the drilling rig, which will be the company's second asset, equipped with a well control system rated at 20000psi.

BOP installation and commissioning are expected to bring in nearly 17 million U.S. dollars in revenue, followed by the second phase, the completion plan. Transocean focuses on deep water and harsh environment drilling services, and operates a high-standard floating offshore drilling fleet. It owns and operates a fleet of 37 mobile offshore drilling platforms, including 27 ultra-deep water floating ships and 10 harsh environment floating ships, and is building two new ultra-deep water drilling ships.

Thigpen added: “With the only two assets in the world specifically designed to maximize the efficiency of 20,000 psi completions, we are the undisputed market leader in this field, and therefore have a great impact on the future prospects of these state-of-the-art assets. Excited."Editor/Baohongying
