The construction of the important El Sillar highway project in Bolivia is making progress. The expressway will have two lanes in either direction, and more than 67% have been completed.

The project is under the responsibility of the Chinese contractor Sinohydro Corporation, which has paid more than US$290 million for its work.

Due to the geological conditions of the area, the project is challenging. Compared with existing roads closed due to landslides, the new roads will provide a more reliable connection. The project involves the construction of two tunnels and 28 bridges and a large number of retaining walls to prevent landslides.

The construction of the highway will provide Bolivia with important national links, and will also facilitate transportation links with neighboring countries Brazil, Chile and Peru. Most notably, this highway will lead directly to port facilities in three neighboring countries, which is vital to inland Bolivia.Editor/Baohongying
