On September 14, good news came from the 2021 FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference. The Lanzhou Urban Rail Transit Line 1 project and other 14 projects surveyed and designed by the First Railway Institute won the annual outstanding project awards, of which 8 were China Intelligent manufacturing.

Lanzhou Urban Rail Transit Line 1 is the world's first rail transit project that crosses the Yellow River. It creatively solves the world's technical problems such as four-crossing the Yellow River, huge thick sand and pebbles, tertiary silt fine sandstone, and traffic decompression. It has solved the local traffic bottleneck problem of belt-shaped plus landscape style and traffic bottleneck, greatly optimized the public transportation structure, and fundamentally improved the travel conditions of the 4 million citizens of Lanzhou. Transportation construction provides solutions.

Since its opening in June 2019, the passenger flow intensity of Lanzhou Metro Line 1 has been among the best in the country. As the FIDIC official comment stated, “The project has achieved an average daily passenger flow intensity of 170,000 passengers during the operation of the 25-kilometer subway line. It’s a miracle.” It has set a record of 249,000 passengers in a single day, and has become the preferred mode of transportation for some Lanzhou citizens.

Lanzhou Metro Line 1 adheres to the sustainable development concept of people-water-ecology-environment-development-society, avoiding water source protection areas and ancient buildings to the greatest extent. For the first time, station air conditioners use direct evaporative cooling technology, which completely relies on the heat exchange of water to achieve cooling, which can save 5.8 million Kwh of electricity each year, which is the first of China's subway projects.

During the implementation of the project, Lanzhou relied on subway construction to increase the intensity of the old city reconstruction, promoted the balanced development of the central city area and the upgrade of the urban consumption structure, which is of great significance for improving the living environment of citizens and building a livable city in China.
