It was reported on October 27, 2021 that the Vietnam Airport Corporation (ACV) recently submitted a feasibility study report on the expansion project of Noi Bai Airport T2 Terminal to the Traffic Engineering Construction and Quality Administration of the Ministry of Transport of Vietnam.

The project is a national key traffic engineering project with a service life of more than 100 years. In order to increase the annual passenger throughput of Noi Bai International Airport's T2 terminal from 10 million to 150,000, an investment of 4.983 trillion VND (approximately US$217 million) is required. The contractors who formulated the feasibility study report of the T2 terminal building expansion project were Japan Airport Consulting Company (JAC) and Vietnam Construction Consulting Company (VNCC). The project includes the expansion of the terminal area of approximately 61,100 square meters, the conversion of 16,800 square meters of area, and the expansion of airport electrical, water supply and drainage and transportation systems to meet the new capacity of the expanded terminal. The project construction time is expected to be from the fourth quarter of 2022 to the third quarter of 2024. According to statistics from the Vietnam Aviation Administration, as of the end of 2019, the passenger throughput of the T2 terminal was 11.42 million passengers, exceeding the design capacity of the terminal.
