The state-owned salt producer Hindustan Salt Co., Ltd. has invited letters of intent to develop a total of 5 gigawatts of solar power generation capacity on its unused land in the Indian states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Rajasthan Solar Project

Of the 5GW, 4GW will enter the land of Sambhar Salts Limited in the Jaipur district of Rajasthan. Sambhar Salts Limited owns 58,000 acres of land in the Sambhar Lake District (Rajasthan), of which 38,400 acres are lakes and the rest is plain land. Therefore, the company is currently using a small part of the land, such as 2,500 acres, for salt production. Therefore, considering the expansion plan of the salt-producing area, solar power can be used in a large area.

Another 1 GW solar power project needs to be developed on the land of Hindustan Salt Industry Co., Ltd. in Surendranagar District, Gujarat. The Hindustan Salt Company owns 23,595 acres of land in Kharaghoda. Only part of this land is used for salt and related products. The remaining land can be used for solar power generation.

The developer must develop the project on HSL's land, and further operate and generate income through the sale of power generation. All costs for project installation, seeking various customs clearances, and power purchase agreements are within the scope of the developer. The developer shall pay a fixed annual rent to the Hindustan Salt Company for each acre of land provided.
