On December 8, 2021, BASF (Guangdong) integrated production base project's bulky terminal officially started construction. BASF is the world's leading chemical giant, with more than 160 wholly-owned subsidiaries or joint ventures in 41 countries in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. BASF’s cooperation with China can be traced back to 1885. As the largest foreign-invested company in China’s chemical industry, BASF’s main investment projects are located in Shanghai, Nanjing and Chongqing.
According to reports, the bulky terminal under construction this time is the main channel for the transportation of large equipment, components, and modules ashore during the construction of the BASF (Guangdong) integrated production base project. The project is mainly divided into preliminary work, construction of wharves and supporting facilities, port basin dredging and bank protection reinforcement. The proposed wharf occupies a coastline length of 345 meters, 2 berths, 1 5000-ton roll-on berth, and 1 A 3000-ton heavy equipment berth (can berth 5000-ton freighters), and at the same time construct 2 supporting bridges and 2 grating crane platforms, with a total construction period of 17 months.
The BASF (Guangdong) integrated production base project with a total investment of US$10 billion was launched in November 2019 on the Donghai Island in Zhanjiang, Guangdong. The project begins with the construction of engineering plastic modification and thermoplastic polyurethane equipment, which is expected to be put into operation in 2022, and the overall project will be completed in 2030.
It is reported that this project is also BASF's first large-scale integrated production base to fully implement intelligent manufacturing. By 2022, the engineering plastics modification device of this project can contribute 60,000 tons of modified engineering plastics products to BASF in China every year. After the overall project is completed, it will provide local and multinational manufacturers in southern China with solutions for the automotive, construction, high-speed rail, electronic and electrical, food packaging, home and personal care, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries.
