BYD has attracted the attention of global investors with its core advantages in the field of complete vehicles. On December 17, 2021, Jiangxi Province’s joint Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Investment Cooperation Promotion Conference was officially held. BYD and Fuzhou signed an investment agreement. BYD will invest 8 billion yuan to build a new energy vehicle power battery project in Fuzhou High-tech Zone. This is not the first time that BYD and Fuzhou have cooperated. This is the second time that BYD has invested in new projects in Fuzhou after BYD's Fuzhou New Energy Automobile Industrial Park and Parts Industrial Park.

The agreement shows that BYD will invest 8 billion yuan in the construction of a new energy power battery project with an annual output of 15GWh in Fuzhou High-tech Zone. It is reported that this is after BYD Fuzhou New Energy Automobile Industrial Park (200,000 vehicles) and Parts Industrial Park, BYD once again invested heavily in the construction of a new energy power battery industrial park in Fuzhou.

Since 2021, BYD has planned to build power battery bases in many places, and significantly increased power battery production capacity to cope with the rapidly increasing orders due to technological highlights such as blade batteries and dm-i. On December 13, the Natural Resources and Planning Bureau of Sheyang County publicized the "Announcement after the Approval of the Construction Project Design Plan of Yancheng Fudi Battery Co., Ltd.". It is understood that the project mainly invests in the manufacturing and R&D of core products such as new energy batteries and related supporting industries. The project is constructed in two phases, including the first phase with an annual output of 15GWh power batteries, with a total investment of 7.5 billion yuan, a land area of 647 acres, and the construction of 34 workshops. 10,000 square meters, planned to be completed and put into production in May 2022; the second phase will build 15GWh based on market demand.

On August 9, 2021, Yancheng Fudi Battery Co., Ltd. was registered and established with a registered capital of 50 million yuan. Its business scope includes battery manufacturing, battery sales, and electronic special materials manufacturing. In addition, in 2021, BYD will also register 4 Fordy battery companies, which will add a total of more than 75GWh of new capacity.

On December 3, Chuzhou Fudi Battery was established. The project address is located at the intersection of Zhongxin Avenue and Chuzhou Avenue, Zhongxin Suchu High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province. The address is the same as the original Guoneng Battery. It is suspected of acquiring Anhui The Guoneng battery plant covers an area of 240,000 square meters and the first-phase production capacity is 5GWh.

On August 3, Wuwei Fudi Battery was registered and established to implement the BYD New Energy Power Battery Yangtze River Delta Manufacturing Center Project (Phase I). The project has an investment of 2.8 billion yuan and an annual production capacity of 10GWh.

On August 24, Jinan Fudi was registered and established. The power battery project of the base has a production capacity of about 30GWh and will be constructed in two phases, of which the first phase has a capacity of 15GWh.

On August 26, Shaoxing Fudi Battery was registered and established. The Shaoxing Fudi Power Battery Project and construction start are expected to be completed in August 2023. The project address is located at No. 666 Punan Avenue, Pukou Street, Shengzhou City, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. The specific production capacity is unknown.

Prior to this, BYD also deployed Qinghai Xining (24GWh), Huizhou (2GWh), Shenzhen Pingshan (14GWh), Chongqing Bishan (35GWh), Xi’an (30GWh), Changsha Ningxiang (20GWh), Guiyang (10GWh), Guizhou (10GWh), and Bengbu, Anhui. (20GWh), Jilin Changchun (about 20GWh) and other production bases.

BYD's production capacity has reached 65GWh by the end of 2020, and is expected to reach 91GWh by the end of 2021. The long-term planned production capacity will exceed 200GWh.

On December 11, 2020, BYD established Fudi Industrial Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary with a registered capital of 500 million yuan, and the legal representative is He Long.

The new company's business scope includes import and export of goods, technology import and export, battery manufacturing, battery sales, and artificial intelligence application software development.

From January to November 2021, BYD’s power battery installed capacity is 21.34GWh, accounting for 16.6%, ranking second; among them, the installed capacity in November is 3.46GWh, with a market share of 16.6%, ranking second.

In addition to large-scale deployment of battery production bases, BYD also established a new battery research company in Chongqing in 2021 to further maintain the company's advantages in lithium battery research and development. According to data, on January 4, Chongqing Fudi Battery Research Institute Co., Ltd., which is wholly-owned by Fudi Industrial Co., Ltd., was formally established. The company has a registered capital of 100 million and its legal representative is Helong. The business scope includes: battery manufacturing, battery sales, graphite and carbon products manufacturing, graphite and carbon products sales, new energy vehicle electrical accessories sales, smart power transmission and distribution and control equipment sales, etc.

Fudi Industrial Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BYD Co., Ltd., which means that the newly established battery research company is 100% indirectly held by BYD.

In April 2021, according to multiple media reports, BYD will start selling car batteries to other companies in the second half of 2021. In addition, Li Yunfei, general manager of BYD's brand and public relations division, once said in an interview with the media that it is not ruled out that Fudi's battery business will be listed separately to promote business expansion. Today, BYD has successively established a number of new battery companies, and its battery capacity expansion trend is obvious.

Since March, BYD’s sales volume has maintained a continuous positive growth trend, reaching new highs, and achieving “nine consecutive growth”, regardless of whether it is the passenger car market or the new energy. Over the same period in the industry, its strength demonstrates its status as a “leader of new energy vehicles”. If the production capacity of new energy vehicles can continue to grow in the future, it is expected that its sales volume in December next month will exceed the 100,000 level.

In January 2021, BYD founder Wang Chuanfu said: The time is ripe for electric vehicles to fully replace fuel vehicles and signaled that the production of fuel vehicles will be completely stopped. At the "2021 Sequoia Digital Technology Global Leaders Summit", Wang Chuanfu also stated that Chinese new energy vehicles at the same price or the same level have surpassed traditional fuel vehicles in all aspects in terms of performance, intelligence, and use cost. Sales of energy vehicles are expected to exceed 3.3 million units, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China will exceed 35% by the end of next year.

In terms of global market data, although it is now in December, due to the huge amount of data and the high difficulty of statistics, the global electric vehicle market sales are relatively lagging behind. According to statistics from foreign media CleanTechnica, global electric vehicle sales in October 2021 increased by 70% year-on-year to 589,663 units, accounting for 8.8% of the global auto market. Among them, pure electric vehicle sales were 416,000 units, accounting for 79% of global electric vehicle sales, and accounting for 6.2%. The BYD brand continued to exert its strength and delivered more than 80,000 electric vehicles, which was almost twice that of the second-place Tesla, and thus regained the sales crown from Tesla. As the sales of new energy vehicles in China have been advancing all the way, the entire new energy vehicle industry has come to the fore. BYD’s current development momentum for new energy vehicles is bound to have a huge demand for batteries. Moreover, BYD has begun to supply batteries externally, and internal and external needs are superimposed. It is not difficult to understand why it will vigorously deploy battery production bases in 2021. Editor/Sang Xiaomei
