After the public bidding ended, Alstom and Metrorex signed a maintenance service contract for the Bucharest Metro train fleet. The 15-year contract, which is valid until 2036, is worth 500 million euros and is based on estimates of the mileage of trains in circulation. These services include preventive and corrective maintenance and overhaul of a total of 82 trains at the time the contract was signed.

Since 2004, Alstom has been providing uninterrupted and comprehensive maintenance services for the Bucharest metro fleet, increasing train availability from 56% to 99.96%. This French company is overhauling the old and new fleet. The company has carried out more than 60 different types of renovations throughout the train's life cycle, improving the train's performance and passenger comfort. There are 82 trains with 492 carriages and an average annual total mileage of 8.5 million kilometers. More than 350 people are dedicated to performing maintenance activities. Following the delivery of the new trains of Metro Line 5 that won the bid in 2021, starting from 2023, the fleet will be equipped with at least 13 new metro trains, the maintenance contract will be extended to this newly added fleet, and there will also be job opportunities to be created. . In October 2020, after the Bucharest Court of Appeal made its ruling, Alstom was appointed as the bid winner of the city’s metro transport operator Metrorex.
