Metito is a provider of water and alternative energy management solutions. It has won a contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a 100,000 cubic meter/day sewage treatment plant, and build a new 7.5 km sewage treatment plant in the company Drain the pipeline. Namangan District, Republic of Uzbekistan. The project is worth 100 million U.S. dollars. It is the first private investment and project financing sewage treatment project undertaken by the Ministry of Housing and Public Services of Uzbekistan under the full support of the Uzbekistan government. .

Water projects in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is dominated by large desert plains and arid climate, and is considered a water-scarce country. Namangan is located on the right bank of the Syr Darya. Due to climate change, river flows are reduced and water resources are in short supply, resulting in a growing gap between water supply and demand. The project marks Metito’s first PPP project in Uzbekistan and the second PPP project in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. It will help restore and expand the water supply and sewage infrastructure in the Namangan region, which is a distance from the capital. Tashkent is 295 kilometers away. This will improve access to safe water and create a more sustainable community. Metito will be responsible for the current 2 years of engineering, procurement and construction of the project, and 23 years of operation and maintenance after completion.

In response, Rami Ghandour, Managing Director of Metito, commented: “Water affects almost every aspect of life. Ensuring a stable and sustainable supply of clean water is vital to the sustainable development of any economy. The Namangan Wastewater Treatment Plant PPP bravely adopts A bolder approach to financing capital-intensive large-scale infrastructure projects that can meet the growing water demand of budgetary constraints and other priorities of government budget expenditures.” “We believe in our global and expanded experience in water PPPs, Our high-value engineering capabilities and the integration of the latest technologies will enable us to set new benchmarks for future water projects in Uzbekistan and the wider CIS region."

The Namangan Sewage Treatment Plant PPP will have a huge impact on Uzbekistan's communities, especially by encouraging more foreign direct investment in capital-intensive, lifeline infrastructure projects. The project is part of a large-scale water management strategy that aims to corporatize and transfer the management of water and sewage systems to private operators. Two presidential decrees have been issued to support the development of water supply, supply and sanitation infrastructure on the basis of PPP, and the Namangan Wastewater Treatment Plant PPP project is the first project developed in this field under these presidential decrees.
