As part of the Floating Energy Alliance, BayWa Re, Elicio and BW Ideol have been awarded the rights to develop a floating wind farm with a capacity of 960 MW on the northeast coast of Scotland. The rights were granted through Crown Estate Scotland's most recent round of Scot Wind leases. The two companies will build the project in the NE8 development area designated in the Scottish Government's offshore wind sector plan.
Gordon Mac Dougall, Managing Director of BayWa Re UK, said: “The level of competition is a testament to the quality of our submissions and the confidence we have in BayWa Re and our partners. “We now look forward to working with our partners to deliver this exciting project. "This will help achieve Scotland's net-zero emissions target and put the country at the forefront of global floating wind energy growth, while supporting up to 3,900 jobs at peak manufacturing and construction." BayWa Re said the Floating Energy Alliance was one of 17 projects selected from a total of 74 applications. The award for developing a floating wind farm aims to further strengthen BayWaRe's presence in the offshore wind sector. Previously, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Korean city of Ulsan in November last year to develop floating offshore wind projects off the city's coast. Felipe Cornago, Commercial Director of BayWa Re Offshore Wind, said: “By implementing a clear strategy and building trust, reputation and expertise in the renewable energy market, we have been able to achieve this ambition.” An important part of this strategy is to work with Partners work together to respond directly to local market and stakeholder needs, goals and opportunities. In July 2021, BayWa Re acquired wind energy developer NWind for an undisclosed price, bringing nearly 700 MW of capacity and 60 wind projects in the process.EditorXingWentao
