In 2022, China's shipbuilding industry will continue the booming market in 2021. The latest data shows that in January 2022, the global new ship order volume was 3.07 million revised gross tons (CGT), an increase of 72% from the previous month, of which China received 1.47 million revised gross tons of orders, accounting for 48%, ranking first in the world. In Shanghai, an important city in China's shipbuilding industry, in 2022, the three major shipbuilding companies under China State Shipbuilding Corporation, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, Hudong Zhonghua, and Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, both broke the monthly record for the amount of new ship orders and completions in January, achieving a "good start".

Zhang Qipeng, deputy general manager of China Shipbuilding Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding: In 2021, compared with the order received in 2020, Waigaoqiao will more than triple in terms of amount. Up to now, the company has orders for about 60 ships, 7.5 million deadweight tons, and the delivery time has been scheduled to 2024.

Chen Jun, General Manager of China Shipbuilding Hudong Zhonghua: With the implementation of the dual carbon policy, more and more shipowners are paying attention to these plans for carbon reduction. Large LNG ships, including large container ships, are now using dual fuels in these ways. Of the 2022 order book, the order book for LNG carriers is close to 45%.

Yan Hai, Chief Analyst of Shenwan Hongyuan Transportation and Logistics Industry: Because the peak of the last round of shipbuilding was accelerated in 2003 and reached a high point in 2011, we calculate according to the replacement cycle of 20 to 25 years, the prosperity of shipbuilding will replace in 2024 Demand will also accelerate. The epidemic actually caused some orders to appear in advance in 2021. Now that the slipway is relatively full, even if there is a slight decline in the number of new ship orders, the capacity utilization rate of the shipyard will remain at a high level, and the price of new ships will also be at a high level. A situation that is easy to rise and hard to fall.Editor/Ma Xue
