Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two civil works contracts to design and build two stations and tunnels on the Cross Island Line Phase 1 (CRL1). The two contracts are worth $641 million.

The first contract worth US$346.5 million was awarded to the Gamuda Singapore branch-Wei Fung construction joint venture covering the design and construction of the Tak Fu station and its tunnels. The company is currently involved in the construction of two stations on the Jurong Regional Line (JRL), as well as the North-South Corridor Road Tunnel between Victoria Street and Kampong Java Road. The second contract worth $294.5 million was awarded to China Communications Construction Company Limited. It covers the design and construction of Tampines North Station and its tunnel connections. The Chinese company is currently building a station on the Jurong Regional Line as well as the Johor Bahru-Singapore MRT system linking viaducts and tunnels.

Construction works on Defu and Tampines North stations are expected to start in the second quarter of 2022, with passenger services to CRL1 scheduled to start in 2030. Telford Station is located on Tampines Road between Telford Avenue 1 and Telford Avenue 2, while Tampines North Station is located between Tampines Avenue and Tampines Avenue 11. Excavation in these areas is expected to be challenging as ground conditions include thick, soft layers of marine clay and soil-like materials containing sandy and silty clays. In 2022, LTA also awarded two station and tunnel construction contracts for RCL1 worth a total of $640.7 million. Phase 1 of the Cross Island Line will serve existing and future developments in the eastern, northeastern and western corridors. The first phase of the project involves the construction of a 29km line serviced by 12 stations, from the Aviation Park to BrightHill. After completion, the cross-island line will have a total length of 50 kilometers and 30 stations. It is expected to be put into passenger operation in 2030.Editor/XingWentao
