Following the Polish government's transfer of the location of the country's offshore wind installation terminals from the port of Gdynia to the port of Gdansk, the latter has launched a competitive process for leasing areas within the port's administrative boundaries and building installation terminals. The initial offer will be in 6 are accepted before 8 March, while the deadline for submitting binding offers will be set three months from the date of completion of the first phase of the program.
According to the Port of Gdansk, the timeliness of this investment is important from the perspective of the development of the Polish offshore wind energy industry, and the location of the installation terminal ensures that the first phase of the development of the offshore wind energy industry will be ready by June 1, 2025 ready. Poland procured nearly 5.9 GW of offshore wind capacity through contracts for difference (CfD) in the first half of 2021 for projects in the most advanced stages of development, some of which could be operational in 2025.
After the Polish government chose the port of Gdynia, offshore wind developers have expressed concerns about whether the port of Gdynia will be ready in time for the planned construction of large-scale projects. Earlier this month, the Polish Council of Ministers passed a resolution to change the location of the installation terminals for offshore wind farms, indicating that the outer port of Gdansk meets all the criteria for industry investors.
