On March 18, 2022, the last unit of the Yalong River Lianghekou Hydropower Station, the highest one million kilowatt-class hydropower station in China, completed a 72-hour trial operation and was officially put into commercial operation. So far, the six 500,000-kilowatt units of the Lianghekou Hydropower Station have all been put into operation.
Lianghekou Hydropower Station is located in Yajiang County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan. It is a key project of the state and Sichuan Province, and a strategic project to optimize the structural adjustment of the energy supply side in the western development. The total approved investment is 66.457 billion yuan, the total installed capacity is 3 million kilowatts, the power station storage capacity is 10.8 billion cubic meters, and it has many years of adjustment performance. The power station is designed to generate more than 11 billion kWh of electricity annually. Construction started in October 2014 and is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
The dam of the power station is a gravel soil core rockfill dam with a height of 295 meters. The Lianghekou Hydropower Station, with an average altitude of 3,000 meters, is a landmark project for China's hydropower development to develop into high-altitude and cold regions.
The Yalong River Basin is the third largest hydropower base in China, and the Lianghekou Hydropower Station with high dams and reservoirs is an important part of the clean energy base in the Yalong River Basin. After the power stations are fully put into operation, through the optimal scheduling and rapid adjustment of cascade hydropower stations such as Lianghekou, Jinping, Ertan, etc., the randomly fluctuating wind power and photovoltaic power generation in the Yalong River Basin can be adjusted into smooth and stable high-quality power, which can be sent out with the help of hydropower. The channels are bundled and sent out, which effectively solves the problems of wind and solar energy development and consumption, and realizes the coordinated development and complementary advantages of water, wind, solar and clean energy in the Yalong River Basin.
Through the compensation and adjustment of the Lianghekou Hydropower Station, the hydropower stations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yalong River, the lower reaches of the Jinsha River and the main stream of the Yangtze River can also increase the annual power generation of about 34.2 billion kWh during the dry season, which is equivalent to three times the power generation of the Lianghekou Hydropower Station itself. .
