Lilama announced the $940 million engineering, procurement and construction transaction. It will involve the construction of two 750-megawatt power plants at existing sites in the southern province of Dong Nai.

Nhon Trach 3 and 4 will be developed over the course of 36 months and start generating electricity sometime between 2024 and 2025. Whether it will become Vietnam's first LNG plant depends on the progress of a larger plant in Long An province east of Ho Chi Minh city. It was built by a consortium led by South Korea's GS Energy and local developer Vina Capital.

Exxon Mobil hopes to build the largest of Singapore's Delta Offshore Energy plans to build other LNG plants in the Mekong Delta's Bac Lieu province in 2024: a $5 billion plant in the northern port city of Hai Phong. Rapid industrial growth in Vietnam has led to looming power shortages and a shift away from coal-fired power plants to less carbon-intensive methods of generating electricity, driving the rapid development of LNG. Partners at the Nhon Trach plant signed an agreement with Petro Vietnam Power, a subsidiary of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, and the state-owned company is also building an LNG import terminal in the nearby coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The terminal, also built by Samsung, will supply liquefied gas to the new Dong Nai plants, which are expected to generate electricity for commercial and industrial centers in southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai provinces.Editor/XingWentao
