On March 23, 2022, China and Malawi signed a memorandum of understanding on the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. At the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding on the joint construction of the Belt and Road, Malawi Foreign Minister Tengbo said that 2022 is the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malawi and China, and he thanked China for its continuous support to Malawi. China is willing to align with Malawi's "Vision 2063" plan through the Belt and Road Initiative, and conduct exchanges and cooperation with Malawi in various fields, so as to truly benefit the Malawi people and help Malawi realize the "Malawi Dream" of prosperity and strength at an early date.

As of February 6, 2022, China has signed more than 200 cooperation documents on the Belt and Road Initiative with 148 countries and 32 international organizations. With the addition of Malawi, the number of countries that have signed Belt and Road cooperation documents with China has reached 149.
