GreenIT, a joint venture between Plenitude (Eni) and CDP Equity to produce renewable energy, and CIIV, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), have signed an agreement to develop two floating offshore wind farms in Sicily and Sardinia. The two projects are located more than 35 kilometers from the coast and have a combined capacity of about 750 MW.
The agreement involves the development, construction and operation of a project in Sicily, off the coast of Marsala, consisting of 21 turbines of approximately 12 megawatts each, with a total capacity of approximately 250 megawatts. The second wind farm will be developed in the sea off the southwest coast of Sardinia and will consist of 42 wind turbines, each with a power of approximately 12 MW, for a total capacity of more than 500 MW.
The two projects will be developed in Sicily with the support of Lilybeo Wind PowerSrl and in Sardinia with the support of Nice Technology and 7 Seas Wind, both of which have a stake in the development of the offshore plant as well as a handful of partners mature experience. Eni said the wind farm will use floating platforms and implement innovative technological solutions aimed at minimising environmental and visual impact, as well as promoting the development of local and national industries. The two wind farms are expected to generate more than 2,000GWh of electricity annually, which is equivalent to the average annual energy consumption of about 750,000 households in the relevant areas. It is planned to start operations in Sicily in 2026 and in Sardinia in 2028 at the end of the authorisation process and after construction.Editor/XingWentao
