The global transition to sustainable mobility is not one option among many, but an urgent necessity. Hydrogen is in the spotlight, and Alstom is ready. We are expanding and improving our hydrogen energy portfolio - not only through internal expertise and acquisitions, but also through numerous partnerships. “Alstom is a pioneer in hydrogen-powered trains. We are laying the foundations for the industry of the future. We need to work towards several key goals: make hydrogen more competitive and powerful, and find a way to provide our customers with a complete System. To better achieve these goals, among many other actions, we have signed strategic long-term partnerships with a number of companies.”
Despite the interest in hydrogen fuel, no customer wants to completely ignore practical problems. No matter how cutting-edge, unusual or exciting technologies are, they cannot sell without efficiency and competitiveness.
Therefore, Alstom and Liebherr are used for fuel cell compressors. The agreement aims to improve the performance of fuel cells, especially by increasing their power density and reducing their cost. Another MoU, Dynamics (EDF), aims to reduce the time it takes to refuel hydrogen buses. Finally, there is a memorandum of understanding with Bioplastics for the development of hydrogen tanks on ships.
Alstom and the Dynamics team are already working on joint modelling and simulation. A test bench, including a hydrogen production station, a compressor and storage racks, is being developed to evaluate the behavior of refueling operations under optimal viewing conditions.
Brahim added: “In addition to this, we are also exchanging knowledge. For the scientific expertise in hydrogen, Alstom is working with the French Office of Atomic and Alternative Energies. We are also involved in a collaboration with Safran, Safran The Group is an aircraft and aerospace company with extensive experience in all aspects of research using H2 fuel."
Alstom's core competence in hydrogen lies in the design and production of rolling stock. But many customers come and demand complete hydrogen fuel systems. What is the solution? Work with a partner who can deliver high-quality work across the rest of the scope.
Alstom has signed a number of active cooperation agreements, focusing on the production, transport and management infrastructure of gas stations. Two rolling stock partners in Germany: the Linde Lower Saxony Regional Transport Company (LNVG) and a consortium of infrastructure services the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV). Brahim Soua said: “Emission-free transport is one of the most important goals to ensure a sustainable future and we can now see how right we are in exploring it early on at Alstom. We are proud to be a pioneer in the market , and guided by Alstom's strategy, we believe we can maintain strong progress."Editor/XingWentao
