The Department of Public Works and Communications reported a budget of $800 million for road work, a 17 percent increase from the 2019 budget. 2020 saw a series of important road projects, as well as construction of new bridges that will improve international links with neighbouring countries. Meanwhile, funding has now been secured from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) worth $235 million. The money will be used to pay for the maintenance and upgrading of Ruta de la Leche, located in central Chaco and San Pedro.
A tender process for a major road widening contract in Paraguay is now being prepared. A 108-kilometer section of the PY01 road will be improved to facilitate traffic between Asuncion and Kundi.
The work is expected to cost $300 million. A feasibility study for the project is currently underway. The bidding process for the contract should be done by the end of 2022. The package will be used to widen the route and maintain and operate the section. The project is overseen by the Paraguayan Ministry of Public Works and Communications.
