Norway's government-owned hydropower company Statkraft has signed a further power supply agreement (PPA) with German cement manufacturer OPTERRA to supply renewable energy from onshore wind and solar. It follows the wind power PPA agreed in 2021 and enables OPTERRA to further convert its plant operations to renewable energy supply, an official statement said. Under the agreement, OPTERRA will receive an additional 300 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy from Statkraft for its plants in Karlsdorf and Worzingen.
From April 2022 to June 2023, 15GWh of wind power will be provided; from July 2023 to December 2032, approximately 30GWh of solar energy will be provided per year. “After completing its first wind power PPA at the end of 2021, OPTERRA has long sought additional green power. Thanks to our diversified product portfolio, we can match the wind farm power supply available in the short term with the long-term power supply of new solar power plants. combined. As a result, OPTERRA obtained a PPA concept that perfectly matched its needs," said Patrick Koch, Head of Origination at Statkraft in Germany.
Renewable power purchase agreements are still relatively new in some sectors in Germany. As experienced and reliable partners, we are excited to demonstrate how such PPAs can help energy-intensive companies like OPTERRA reduce their CO2 emissions. "The second PPA is another step in our roadmap to reduce CO2 emissions. Initiatives like this demonstrate our ongoing sustainability commitment and contribute to the achievement of OPTERRA's ambitious sustainability goals," said Danilo Buscaglia, CEO of OPTERRA Say. In December 2021, Statkraft signed a four-year renewable power purchase agreement with OPTERRA for a total supply of 120GWh of wind power. With additional annual delivery approx. With 30GWh of renewable energy, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 7,500 families of four, OPTERRA hopes to meet up to 20% of the annual electricity demand of the Karsdorf and Wössingen cement plants. Wind power is generated at wind farms that no longer receive EEG subsidies. Therefore, PPA enables these wind farms to continue to operate. The company said the solar energy is provided by Statkraft's solar portfolio and thus directly supports the growth of renewable energy in Germany.Editor/XingWentao
