On April 20, 2022, the Hubei Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment approved the environmental impact report for the newly built Hunan high-speed rail section from Xiangyang to Jingmen. It is reported that the project is one step closer to the official start.
The Xiangyang-Jingmen section of the Hunan high-speed railway project starts from Xiangyang East Station of the Zhengwan Railway in Xiangyang City in the north, and passes through Yicheng City to Jingmen City in the south. The main railway line has a total length of 116.969 kilometers. The construction standard is passenger dedicated line, double line, electric traction, and the designed maximum speed is 350 kilometers per hour. There are 4 stations on the main line, namely Xiangyang East Station, Yicheng North Station, Shuanghe West Station (Yuexing Station), and Jingmen West Station. Two new 220kV outdoor traction substations (Yicheng North and Shuanghe traction substations) were built. The project has 77.719 km/74 bridges and 20.435 km/17 tunnels, with a bridge-to-tunnel ratio of 87.3%.
The total investment of the project is about 18.1 billion yuan, and the planned total construction period is 42 months. The Xiangyang-Jingmen section of the Hunan high-speed railway is an important part of the eight vertical and eight horizontal middle-Hunan high-speed railways planned in the "Medium and Long-term Railway Network Planning". After the completion of the project in the future, it will further improve the comprehensive transportation system of Hubei and Central China, enhance the leading role of Hubei Province, the main body and the two wings, and help the economic and social development of the Jianghan Plain.
