The route of Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge starts from the intersection of Rugao Shizhuang Town and Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway, goes south through Shizhuang Industrial Park and Rugao Port Area, and enters the Yangtze River at Rugao Huatai Heavy Factory Area, where Beihang University has a main span of 1208 meters. The road bridge spans the Rugao middle branch of the Yangtze River. After passing through Minsha Island in Jingjiang, a south channel bridge with a main span of 2,300 meters is set up to cross the main river channel of the Yangtze River. It has successively crossed Vietnam Yanjiang Highway, Gangfeng Highway, and planned Jingang Special Railway, ending at Chenyang Interchange of Zhangjiagang Shugang Expressway, with a total length of 29.849km.

The cross-river section of the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge is a bridge project between the North Embankment of the Yangtze River and the South Embankment of the Yangtze River. The total length of the bridge is 7859m. The initial design pile number range is K13+227~K21+086. From north to south, it is divided into North Approach Bridge and North Channel. The bridge, the middle approach bridge, the south channel bridge and the south approach bridge are five parts. The north channel bridge is a double-tower and single-span suspension bridge with a main span of 1208 meters. The approach bridge is 1069 meters long, the middle approach bridge is 2032 meters long, and the south approach bridge is 533 meters long, all of which are prestressed concrete continuous rigid frame bridges.

It is understood that the Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge is one of the key highway-crossing channels to be constructed recently in the "Layout Plan for the Yangtze River Trunk Line Crossing the River (2020-2035)" issued by the National Development and Reform Commission. It is of great significance to promote the construction of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration and the integrated development across the river in line with the development of the national strategy.

Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge is located about 28 kilometers downstream of Jiangyin Bridge and about 16 kilometers upstream of Shanghai-Sutong Bridge. It starts from Chenyang Interchange of Zhangjiagang Shugang Expressway in the south, enters the Yangtze River on the upstream of Zhanggao Steamboat, and ends at Shizhuang, Rugao City. The southwest side of the town is connected to the Shizhuang Interchange reserved by the G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway, with a total length of about 30 kilometers. The main line of the bridge adopts the highway standard, of which the cross-river section has two-way eight lanes with a design speed of 100km/h, and the north-south connection is two-way six-lane with a design speed of 120km/h. The total investment of the project is about 31.167 billion yuan.

Zhangjinggao Yangtze River Bridge Suzhou-Zhangjiagang section is about 11 kilometers long, with Chenyang (hub) and Zhangjiagang North interconnecting. The South Channel Bridge in Zhangjiagang City is designed to use a 2300+717-meter suspension bridge to cross the main channel of the Yangtze River. It will set the world's largest span suspension bridge, the world's highest suspension bridge pylon, the world's longest high-strength main cable, the world's largest connecting wall anchorage foundation, and the world's largest suspension bridge. The continuous-length steel box girder and the world's largest displacement expansion device have 6 world's highest, which is the first work of "China Bridge" breaking the 2,000-meter span for the first time.
