On May 5, 2022, the consortium formed by Energy China Guangdong Research Institute and Guangdong Water Conservancy and Electric Power Survey and Design Research Institute Co., Ltd. won the bid for the survey and design of three pumped-storage power stations in Guangdong. Recently, Energy China Gezhouba Group also received the bid-winning notice from State Grid Co., Ltd., and successfully won the bid for the construction project of Zhejiang Pan'an Pumped-storage Power Station Reservoir, making new progress in the clean energy market.

The three project sites won by the Guangdong Institute have all been listed as the national pumped storage medium and long-term development plan (2021-2035) reserve and implementation projects. They are located in Qingyuan Yingde Paradise, Shaoguan Xinfeng and Chaozhou Qingma Garden. The installed capacity of this phase is 1200 MW, which is invested and constructed by China Southern Power Grid Peak Regulation and Frequency Regulation Power Generation Co., Ltd. The consortium will be specifically responsible for the pre-feasibility study, feasibility study, tender design and construction drawing design stage survey and design of the three power stations.

After the completion of the project, it will effectively meet the needs of China Southern Power Grid for adjustment and large-scale clean energy consumption, strongly support the construction of a new power system with a gradually increasing proportion of new energy, ensure the security of power supply in Guangdong, and promote local economic and social development.

Zhejiang Pan'an Pumped Storage Power Station Reservoir Construction Project

The winning bid for the project is about 856.3 million yuan. The construction content mainly includes the upper and lower reservoir projects, the inlet/outlet of the upper reservoir, the production management room project, the permanent road project on the site, and the digitalization of infrastructure projects.

The main dam and auxiliary dam of the upper reservoir of the power station are both concrete face rockfill dams. The maximum dam height of the main dam is 75 meters, and the maximum dam height of the auxiliary dam is 26 meters. The lower reservoir dam adopts a roller compacted concrete gravity dam with a maximum dam height of 68.5 meters.

Pan'an Pumped Storage Power Station is located in Dapan Town, Pan'an County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. It is a key project for building a new power system in East China, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kilowatts. The pivot project consists of upper reservoir, lower reservoir, water delivery system, and underground powerhouse It is planned to be completed and put into production in 2028.

After the power station is put into operation, it will undertake tasks such as peak regulation, valley filling, frequency regulation, phase regulation and emergency backup in Zhejiang Power Grid. It will further optimize the power supply structure of Zhejiang Power Grid, promote the development of green energy, promote the optimization and adjustment of Zhejiang's industrial structure, and serve clean and low energy sources. It is of great significance to promote the "dual control" of energy in carbon transformation.

The pumped storage power station is a clean energy power source with water as the medium. It converts the excess electrical energy into the potential energy of water when the grid load is low, and converts the potential energy of the water into electrical energy when the load peaks.
