On May 18, 2022, a consortium of French engineering firm Alstom and two Israeli companies Electra and Dan Transportation has signed a contract worth 2.6 billion euros with Israeli state company NTA for the design, construction , maintain and finance the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Railway Line. Alstom's €858 million share of the contract includes the design, engineering, supply, integration, testing and commissioning of the rail system, including rail, electrification, power, signaling, communication systems and the supply of trams.
Electra will manage the design and construction of the civil works, and all three companies will work on system maintenance. The 62-stop, 39-kilometer route will connect the city of Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv University, the industrial and commercial districts of Herzliya in the west and the business district of Kiryat Atidim with Holon and Rishon Lezion in the south. Some 76 million passengers are expected to benefit by 2030.
