Recently, the Hunan Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment released the "Announcement on the Acceptance and Announcement of the EIA of the Expansion Project of the G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway Leiyang City to Yizhang (Huang-Guangdong Boundary) Section", which indicates that the official start of the project is getting closer and closer. Previously, the provincial level has also released news to ensure that the expansion project of the G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway Leiyang City to Yizhang (Huang-Guangdong boundary) section will officially start in 2022!

It is reported that the Leiyang-Yizhang section of the existing Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway was opened to traffic at the end of 2001, and the service time has been nearly 20 years. With the rapid development of the national economy, the traffic volume of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in Hunan Province has grown rapidly. The current average daily traffic volume Has reached more than 50,000 pcu/d. In particular, the Beijing section, Henan section, Hebei section, and Guangdong section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway have been expanded to six or eight lanes. The Hubei section is in the process of expansion, and the Hunan section will become a bottleneck section in the G4 Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway.

According to the EIA report, the project has a total investment of 19.465 billion yuan and is located in Leiyang City, Chenzhou, Yongxing County, Suxian District, Beihu District and Yizhang County. Yizhang Xiaotang (the border between Hunan and Guangdong), which is connected to the northern Guangdong section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, has a total length of 144.33km and adopts the two-way eight-lane expressway standard with a design speed of 100km/h and 120km/h. It is worth mentioning that the project will also build a new Leiyang South Interchange at K1715+950, which will intersect with the G356 National Road (planned)/first-class highway.

The expansion project of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway from Leiyang to Yizhang (the border between Hunan and Guangdong) is a key construction project in the "14th Five-Year Plan for Transportation Development (Highway, Waterway) of Hunan Province", and it is also a component of the national transportation corridor. Part of it is an important corridor connecting Hunan to the Wuhan urban agglomeration in the north and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in the south. In the future, the construction of the project will help improve the national and regional road network, eliminate the bottleneck of expressway passage between Hunan and Guangdong, improve the service capacity and driving safety of Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao expressway, support Hunan Province to connect with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and promote the development of regional tourism resources. It is of great significance to promote coordinated economic and social development and solve the contradiction between regional transportation supply and demand. Editor/He Yuting
