On June 20, 2022, the first methanol dual-fuel-powered green ship built in China was delivered and left the factory in Nansha, Guangzhou. The ship is independently developed, designed and built by Guangzhou Shipyard International, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation. It is the first ship built for a 49,900-ton methanol dual-fuel chemical/product oil tanker and is equipped with a world-leading methanol dual-fuel drive system.
The methanol dual-fuel drive system equipped with the ship can be driven by 4 fuel modes: fuel oil, fuel hydrate, methanol, and methanol hydrate. It is the first application of hydrate fuel solution in the field of ships. It can control the combustion state to reduce exhaust emissions without installing exhaust gas. The treatment system can meet the highest IMO emission requirements.
Methanol is currently available in more than 100 ports around the world. Compared with similar alternative products such as LNG, methanol is more convenient for storage and transportation, and has lower infrastructure renovation costs. It has significant cost and safety advantages. It is rapidly developing into the most feasible and the least emission. and the lowest cost alternative to marine fuel. A total of 6 49,900-ton methanol dual-fuel chemical/product oil tankers delivered this time have been ordered. At present, 3 have been launched and undocked, and will be completed and delivered in succession.Editor/Ma Xue
