China helps bridge project on Samal Island in the Philippines

The Philippines is a developing country with complex population problems. The construction of large-scale projects to benefit the people can guarantee people's livelihood. As an important hub of the Maritime Silk Road, the Philippines is also a natural partner in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative. China supports the "Build, Build, Build" plan of the Philippines, and attaches great importance to the alignment of the development strategies of the two countries. The potential of practical cooperation between the two countries is rapidly being released, the cooperation projects in infrastructure and other fields have taken substantial steps, the bilateral trade and investment have risen sharply, and the practical cooperation between China and the Philippines has accelerated and shifted gears, and the momentum is gratifying.

Chinese money will help pay for a bridge project in the Philippines, which is due to start soon. The project is to build a new bridge connecting Samal Island and Mindanao. The bridge is 3.86 kilometers long and has two lanes in both directions. The $350 million was provided through Chinese lenders. The bridge will connect the Garden City of Samal Island with Davao City in the southern Philippines.

 

Construction work on the bridge is expected to begin in July 2022, and the structure is designed with a clearance of 47m for transport underneath and a deck width of 24m. The loan to fund this work is being provided to the Philippine Treasury through the Chinese government.Editor/XingWentao
