On June 22, 2022, the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission approved the feasibility study report of the third phase of Dongguan Urban Rail Transit Line 2, and agreed to build the third phase of Metro Line 2 in Dongguan, marking the completion of all project approval procedures for the line , which also marks that Dongguan rail transit has entered a new stage of line network construction.

Line 2 Phase III Project

According to the approval of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the third phase of Line 2 starts from Humen Railway Station (excluding) in the north and ends at Jiaoyiwan Station in the south. The total length of the line is 17.3 kilometers, of which the underground section is 16.85 kilometers, the elevated section is 0.25 kilometers, and the transition section is 0.20 kilometers. ;There are 9 stations including Humen North Station, Humen Avenue Station, Humen Jinjie Road Station, Humen Guangming Road Station, Binhai Bay Station, Qingchuang City Station, Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal, Jiaoyiwan West Station, and Jiaoyiwan Station, all of which are underground station; one Binhai Bay parking lot and one Binhai Bay main substation, which are dispatched by the existing urban rail transit network control center in Dongguan.

The project adopts 6 type B vehicles, with a maximum running speed of 120 km/h, and 12 additional vehicles/72 vehicles will be purchased at the initial stage. The total construction period of the project is 54 months. At present, the municipal rail company is making every effort to promote the preliminary design and construction bidding of the third phase of Line 2 in accordance with relevant provincial and municipal requirements, and strive to start construction in the third quarter of 2022.

In the future, with the construction of the third phase of Line 2, it will be conducive to accelerating the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promoting the integrated development of Shenzhen and Dongguan, guiding the rational layout of urban space, and improving the structure of Dongguan's urban rail transit network.
