According to data from China Southern Power Grid, as of June 28, 2022, the cumulative amount of electricity transmitted from the mainland to Hong Kong, China exceeded 300 billion kWh, reaching 304.3 billion kWh, an increase of more than 9 times that before Hong Kong’s return.
According to reports, the mainland began to supply power to Hong Kong in 1994. With the return of Hong Kong, the interconnection between Guangdong and Hong Kong has become increasingly close. At present, China Southern Power Grid is connected to Hong Kong through 11 high-voltage transmission lines, and nearly 80% of the power generation of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station is continuously transported to Hong Kong.
At present, the mainland's maximum power transmission capacity to Hong Kong has reached 1.7 million kilowatts. In 2022, it is expected to send about 12.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Hong Kong, accounting for about a quarter of Hong Kong's total electricity consumption. By 2025, Guangdong and Hong Kong will complete the 500 kV power transmission and transformation project, and complete the transformation and upgrading of 4 high-voltage lines and Shenzhen substation.
