China and the Pacific island countries that have established diplomatic relations are good friends, good partners and good brothers who help each other and know each other. In May 2022, President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech to the Second China-Pacific Island Foreign Ministers' Meeting, pointing out that the friendship between China and Pacific island countries has a long history and spans mountains and seas. In recent years, the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the Pacific island countries has continued to move forward and achieved fruitful results, becoming a model of South-South cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results.

Focus on the future

China and the Pacific island countries are both developing countries, and they feel the urgency of the governments and people of the island countries to develop their economy and improve people's livelihood. When expanding and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, China always upholds the correct concept of justice and interests, and sincerely provides assistance to the economic and social development of island countries without any political conditions, which is highly recognized by the international community, including Pacific island countries. China fully respects the sovereignty of Pacific island countries in cooperation, does not impose on others, does not seek geopolitical self-interest, and opposes any country that regards Pacific island countries as its own backyard.

At the 2nd China-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers' Meeting, all parties involved focused on the future, focused on cooperation, and sought common development, and reached a large number of cooperation achievements and consensuses, which helped to further improve the cooperation between China and Pacific island countries. China actively responded to the cooperation needs of Pacific island countries, announcing that it would continue to build 6 new cooperation centers, namely, emergency supplies reserve, climate change cooperation center, poverty reduction and development cooperation center, agricultural cooperation demonstration center, disaster prevention and mitigation cooperation center, and Juncao technology demonstration center. The platform has been well received by all parties.

Over the past 40 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Papua New Guinea, the two sides have always respected and treated each other as equals, supported each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, jointly maintained regional peace and stability, and promoted regional development and prosperity. China has helped Papua New Guinea build bridges, build roads, build schools, and lay out power grids, all of which are good things that help strengthen the endogenous power of Papua New Guinea's economic development and benefit the local people. China's technical assistance for Juncao and upland rice planting for more than 20 years is a typical "teach a man how to fish" project, benefiting a large number of rural families. During the peak period of the construction of important projects in Papua New Guinea, Chinese companies employ 4/5 of the local personnel, creating a considerable number of high-quality employment opportunities for Papua New Guinea. At the completion and handover ceremony of the PNG Enga Provincial Hospital Project held not long ago, nearly 2,000 PNG people cheered and thanked them. They are all direct beneficiaries of this modern comprehensive hospital. Papua New Guinean Prime Minister Marape thanked the Chinese government for its support for the project, and believed that the hospital embodies the high level of "Made in China" and will play a positive demonstration role in Papua New Guinea.
