The Port of Gdansk, Poland, will cement its position as the top Baltic shipping hub after the construction of a new $245 million container terminal. Gdansk DCT, the largest container terminal operator in the Baltic Sea, will build its third deepwater terminal, codenamed Project T3. When the project is completed, the Port of Gdansk will be able to handle the next generation of container ships in the Baltic Sea, which will reduce the distance travelled by feeder vessels and provide more global connectivity for cargo owners in Poland and adjacent regions.

The T3 project will start construction in September, with a coastline of 717 meters and a water depth of 17.5 meters. It is planned to be completed in the first half of 2025. The investment in this project includes the purchase of 7 quay cranes to handle the world's largest ships and provide storage yard The purchase of 20 yard bridges is expected to increase the handling capacity of the Port of Gdansk by another 1.7 million TEUs to 4.5 million TEUs, making the Port of Gdansk one of the largest container ports in Europe. For the past three years, the Port of Gdansk has been implementing a $3 billion expansion plan aimed at not only securing its status as the top Baltic port, but transforming it into one of the largest in Europe.

The Port of Gdansk is a gateway port to Central and Eastern Europe and a transshipment center on the Baltic Sea, and is one of the fastest growing ports in Europe. Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the port of Gdansk has positioned itself to help Ukraine rebuild import and export routes, bringing new sources of goods to the Baltic ports. In the first quarter of 2022, the Port of Gdansk handled 14.8 million tons of cargo, an increase of 11.3%, surpassing the two Russian ports and rising to second place in the ranking of Baltic ports in terms of cargo throughput. At the same time, the Port of Gdansk completed 560,000 TEUs, an increase of 9%, maintaining its number one position in the Baltic Sea in terms of container throughput.Editor/XingWentao
