The Ligurian Highway is a highway from Genoa, the capital of Liguria, Italy, along the west coast, from Timilia to France, with a total length of 158.1 kilometers. Due to the terrain, many road sections are viaducts or tunnels. The section from Genoa to Savona was opened to traffic on September 5, 1967, and the whole line was opened to traffic on November 6, 1971. The entire section is part of the European E25, 74 and European E80 roads.
Italy is undertaking a major upgrade project for the Ligurian highway. The project costs 7.1 billion euros and is expected to be completed in 2025. Maintenance work is underway to improve the highway. Bridges and tunnels are being improved with the installation of the latest safety and traffic control systems. Noise barriers and new guardrails were also installed where needed.
Through the app, a series of smart services will be provided, most of which are designed to provide prompt information. Hyperconnected highways will be able to inform drivers and other road users of hazards, decelerations, accidents or construction sites hundreds of kilometers ahead, and provide applicable alternative routes. In addition to having state-of-the-art connectivity, the smart road infrastructure will transform the entire 400-kilometer smart road segment into a safe haven for autonomous driving, with the ability to drive entire highways fully in the future, provided, of course, that your car or motorcycle has the this function. If successful, this would be the first road in Europe to fully support autonomous driving capabilities.Editor/XingWentao
