On August 12, 2022, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan inspected the Yilingga Airport upgrade project undertaken by Power Construction Municipal Corporation, a subsidiary of PowerChina. The director of the Tanzania Highway Bureau, the governor of Yilingga Province and Government officials at all levels attended the ceremony.
At the ceremony site, President Hassan listened to the report of the Director of the Highway Bureau on the construction of the project, expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of the project, and expressed his appreciation for the sufficient jobs provided by the project for local residents and the skills training for them. Said that in the future, it will vigorously promote the transportation construction of Yilingga and surrounding areas to help the local economic development.
The Yilingga Airport upgrade project is a national key construction project in Tanzania. It is located in Yilingga Province in central Tanzania, about 250 kilometers away from the capital Dodoma. It is the third airport restoration project of POWERCHINA in Tanzania. The main construction content of the project is to repair and upgrade the existing 2.1 km runway to asphalt concrete; repair and upgrade taxiways and apron, install aviation lighting system and navigation system, build new generator room, airport fire emergency center, and auxiliary drainage system, greening, fence, etc.
After the project is completed, it can meet the take-off and landing requirements of small and medium-sized passenger aircraft, improve the travel efficiency of passengers, and promote the development of local industry, agriculture and tourism.
