Industrial services group Bilfinger has won a contract to build an LNG plant near the central German city of Fulda to help decarbonize Germany's heavy transport sector.
Commissioned by German energy company Reefuelery, the plant will produce up to 180 tonnes of climate-neutral fuel per day from biomethane from municipal and agricultural waste.
Bilfinger said the plant would produce enough clean fuel to run 4,500 heavy-duty vehicles and reduce carbon dioxide emissions from burning diesel by 550,000 tons a year.
Reefuelery chose the site near Fulda because it can connect to the 679-kilometer Midal gas pipeline, the backbone of Germany's fuel pipeline network. Because of the extremely low temperatures required for gas liquefaction, Bilfinger had to design the pipeline to withstand temperatures as low as -196ºC, the company said.Editor/XingWentao
