Petronas started developing a natural gas transmission facility in Tanjung Kedulong, Bintulu, which will supply natural gas to Sarawak Petrochemical Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Energy Sdn Bhd from 2021.
The ground breaking ceremony for the additional gas sales facility in Bintulu was officiated by Sarawak Prime Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg yesterday. Also present were Petronas Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohd Bakshaleh, Petronas President and Group CEO Datuk Tunku Mohammad Taufik, and Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak Datuk Ahmad Ahmad. Ji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Seri Dr Sin Kui Yin, Minister of State and Deputy Minister.
BAGSF-2 is designed to transport up to 390 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day. The facility will span 70 hectares and have its own dedicated administrative building, processing areas, metering stations and utilities. The facility will deliver 160MMscfd of natural gas to the Sarawak government-owned methanol plant, which will be operated by SPSB. The methanol plant at Tanjung Kidurong is currently under construction. Another 70MMscfd will be supplied to Sarawak Energy Berhad's Tanjung Kee Durong Power Plant. The remaining capacity will allow the facility to serve future customers.
Datuk Tengku Taufik said, the development of BAGSF-2 marks another important milestone in our commitment to working with the Sarawak State Government to achieve sustainable development of its oil and gas industry. Once commissioned, BAGSF-2 will create new value-added activities for Sarawak's hydrocarbon resources, supporting the state's ambitions for its petrochemical and domestic power industries. We look forward to building a strong partnership with the state government to develop Sarawak’s resources for shared prosperity for the state and the nation. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news
