Power company Enel Colombia has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Bavaria AB InBev. Clean energy will be supplied to the brewery from the first phase of the 486.7MWdc Guayepo I and II solar park in Ponedera in the Atlantic Ocean. The Guayepo Phase 1 project has an installed capacity of 221MWdc and delivers 250GWh of clean energy to the brewery every year.
Lucio Rubio Díaz, General Manager of Enel Colombia and Central America, said that as we work to decarbonize the economy, unconventional renewable energy is one of the key pillars, contributing to a balanced, more reliable, safe and efficient energy matrix. The agreement with Bavaria, through which we will guarantee the use of renewable energies for energy supply, will undoubtedly bring enormous benefits to mitigating climate change through the use of innovation, technology and sustainability in industrial processes.
Starting in February 2023, the renewable energy will be delivered to seven breweries, two malthouses and one label factory located in different cities across the country. The brewery's 15-year PPA with Enel will support the construction of new unconventional renewable energy sources and help reduce carbon emissions.
Sergio Rincon, CEO of Bavaria, said: "We in Bavaria firmly believe that the joint efforts of all of us can build a better country, so environmental sustainability is a top priority for our business.
With that in mind, I'm proud to share with Colombia a new reason to raise a glass: starting in 2024, we will be producing 100% beer using renewable energy. We will continue to accompany thousands of Colombians in their vibrant future celebrations.Editor/XingWentao
