On August 31, 2022, the Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project around Beibu Gulf officially started.

The Guangdong Water Resources Allocation Project around the Beibu Gulf is the backbone of the national water network and one of the 55 major water conservancy projects that the State Council will accelerate in 2022. The total investment of the project exceeds 60 billion yuan, and the total length of the water transmission line is 499.9 kilometers, benefiting the people of Zhanjiang, Maoming, Yangjiang and Yunfu in western Guangdong. According to the approval document, the total construction period of the project is 96 months.

The whole project draws water from the main stream of the Xijiang River in Yunfu City, passes through the Yunkai Mountains, connects 11 reservoirs along the line, and reaches 13 counties, 112 townships, 9 urban areas, 112 townships, 9 cities in Yunfu, Maoming, Yangjiang, Zhanjiang and other 4 cities in the south and west of Guangxi. Water supply to key industrial parks, covering a population of more than 18 million, will effectively play the role of the lifeline of water supply.Editor/Ma Xue
