Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a few days ago that the country's government has approved the reallocation of 1,200MW of renewable energy quotas to photovoltaic resources. This is the first step in strengthening Malaysia's commitment to the energy transition.

He said the Malaysian government is expected to create 14,000 jobs and US$1.4 billion in investment through the virtual power purchase arrangement, which will help support the development of Malaysia's renewable energy sector.

The new quota will be used to implement programs under the existing mechanism, which includes new enhanced scheduling arrangements and a program for rooftop PV installations. The funding will be used to explore ways to implement new renewable energy programs, including the development of photovoltaic parks and power supply for new data centers. He also said there will be a new option to procure green power supplies for businesses through the concept of virtual power purchase arrangements. This measure will be implemented from the fourth quarter of 2022 with a quota of 600MW.Editor/XingWentao
