The project will build a new north runway with a length of 3,800 meters and a width of 45 meters and a south runway with a length of 3,600 meters and a width of 45 meters, as well as the corresponding taxiway system, apron, navigation lights, freight, maintenance, production and living assistance and other facilities , the estimated investment is 25.777 billion yuan.
This is another important development following the approval of the preliminary design of the terminal area project of Xiamen New Airport in November 2021. At this point, the airport project will enter the comprehensive construction stage, and it is expected to be completed and opened to navigation in 2026.
Xiamen New Airport is positioned as my country's important international airport, regional hub airport, international cargo port airport, and cross-strait exchange gateway airport. Xiamen's new airport will be built near Dayang Island, Xiang'an District, Xiamen City. It is a rare island-type airport in the world.
The construction of Xiamen's new airport will solve the urgent need for the development of the aviation industry in the special zone - Xiamen Gaoqi Airport, which was completed and put into use in 1983, has undergone two rounds of expansion, and its annual throughput has grown from an initial 1 million to 27.4 million in 2019. , operates more than 200 domestic and foreign routes, and is one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world. At the same time, limited by various conditions such as land resources, Xiamen Gaoqi Airport has no conditions to expand facilities such as apron and runway, and can only choose a new site to build a new one.
