A consortium of Belgian contractors Besix and Denmark's MT Højgaard has won a €346 million contract from the Danish Road Authority for the extension of Copenhagen's Nordhavn tunnel. The design and build contract is expected to be signed after the standstill period ends in mid-September.
The consortium will build a 1.4km cut-and-cover road tunnel from Svanevænget through the port of Svanemøllehavn to Nordhavn within 60 months. The consortium will cast the tunnel section in situ.
The purpose of the tunnel is to create a more direct access to the urban development area inside and outside Beigang. It will connect Østerbro with the outer Nordhavn, improve access to port activity in the area, and divert heavy traffic from Østerbro's other road network. About 700m of the link will be underwater. The scope of works also includes local roads and junctions connected to the tunnel, as well as mechanical and electrical installations and several traffic control and monitoring systems.
Mathieu Dechamps, managing director of Besix International, called it a milestone moment for the company. We won this infrastructure project in 2019 for the country that delivered the splendid Princess Mary Bridge to the Danish Road Authority, a testament to our status as the region's century-old infrastructure specialist.Editor/XingWentao
