As part of its ongoing push to modernize its construction, Singapore will open its first integrated construction park in Jurong Port in December 2022. The campus will bring together several major supply chain processes in one place, including cement and steel manufacturing, concrete mixing and precasting, aggregate storage and volumetric module manufacturing.
The country's building and construction agency says the idea is to use land more efficiently, speed up automation and encourage construction companies to do more off-site manufacturing, which it calls design for fabrication and assembly. The park will use conveyor belts to transport materials to minimize vehicle travel.
The BCA hopes to increase the adoption rate of DfMA from 44% of the current total floor area of buildings to 70% by 2025. This will help construction companies increase productivity and reduce their reliance on foreign labor. It plans to build more mixed-use campuses across the city-state.
The Singapore government is unique in its drive to modernize buildings. In 2021, it said it would bring together companies that require the entire construction supply chain to form an alliance. The alliances must present a joint business plan of at least three years showing how they will increase productivity through DfMA and digitalisation.Editor/XingWentao
