Africa-focused transition energy company Chariot and independent power producer Total Eren will build a large green hydrogen project in Mauritania. The two companies formed a consortium to begin a feasibility study on a proposed green hydrogen project, known as Project Nour.

Chariot and Total Eren will own equal shares of the consortium. For this collaboration, Total Eren will contribute its extensive experience and knowledge in solar, wind, hybrid and green hydrogen projects. Chariot will co-lead project development and licensing, local content and stakeholder engagement activities. The consortium will conduct an in-depth feasibility study and explore opportunities to extract green hydrogen from the plant.

Fabienne Demol, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Business Development at Total Eren, said: “We believe that green hydrogen will be an important part of the future energy mix and we are delighted to establish this new partnership on this continent. Our strategic shareholder Total Energies has a strong footprint. Our skills complement Chariot's wells and we intend to share our expertise throughout project development. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Mauritanian authorities for their support and cooperation.

Through this project, the consortium aims to contribute to the sustainable economic development of Mauritania by providing cost-effective transportable energy solutions. It will provide baseload power to the national grid, diversify industrial activity, create jobs and help develop local infrastructure. Additionally, Chariot and TotalEren are expected to jointly explore additional green hydrogen opportunities in other African countries.

Adonis Pouroulis, CEO of Chariot, said: "We are delighted to further strengthen our partnership with Total Eren, a world-class renewable energy leader. We look forward to working together on this very important green hydrogen development project in Mauritania. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news

Having such a partner who shares our vision and focus on the future is a key part of developing this valuable asset and marks an important step forward in the development of Project Nour. We are eager to continue to expand our green hydrogen project portfolio and, like our renewable energy business, we look forward to working with TotalEren to explore additional opportunities in the future.Editor/XingWentao
