On September 9, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony of the photovoltaic composite project of the 3GW new energy base in the Tengger Desert was held in Zhongwei City, Ningxia, which is the largest desert photovoltaic base in the country.

It is reported that the project is located in Yingshuiqiao Town, Shapotou District, Zhongwei City. It is the first UHV transmission channel in the country to develop a large desert photovoltaic base and transmit new energy - a key supporting project of the "Ningxia Electricity into Hunan" project It is also a major project for the National Energy Group to achieve the hard goal of "starting 20 million new energy projects and putting into production 15 million". The project has an installed capacity of 3 million kilowatts and a total investment of 15.25 billion yuan.

After the project is completed, the annual power generation will reach about 5.78 billion kWh, the operating income will be 1.5 billion yuan, the tax payment will be 230 million yuan, and 1,500 jobs will be provided. It can save 1.92 million tons of standard coal every year, reduce the annual emission of sulfur dioxide by about 33,900 tons, reduce the annual emission of nitrogen oxides by about 50,000 tons, and reduce the annual emission of carbon dioxide by about 4.66 million tons.
