Saudi Arabia plans to build three projects in the steel industry with a combined capacity of 6.2 million tonnes. The total value of these projects is estimated at $9.31 billion. One of the projects is an integrated iron sheet production complex with an annual capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, said Saudi Industry and Mineral Resources Minister Bandar Khorayev. Once completed, it will support the shipbuilding, oil platform and reservoir manufacturing sectors.
In March 2022, Doosan Heavy Industries broke ground on a 400,000-square-meter forging and casting facility in Saudi Arabia. He added that the ministry is working with local and international investors to establish various investment opportunities in these areas of the kingdom.
Speaking at the Saudi International Steel Conference, Al Khorayef announced that he was in talks with international investors for another project. He said this requires the construction of a comprehensive iron surface production complex with an annual output of 4 million tons of hot-rolled iron, 1 million tons of cold-rolled iron, and 200,000 tons of tin-plated iron. Al Khorayef said the complex will serve the automotive, food packaging, household appliances and water pipeline industries.
In August, Johnson Arabia completed construction of a calcined petroleum coke plant in Oman. Finally, a factory will be built to produce round iron blocks with an estimated annual capacity of 1 million tons. This will be the main introduction to non-welded iron pipes for the oil and gas industry, the report concludes. In September, JO Steel Holdings said it had secured a $692 million credit to build a steel plant in Saudi Arabia.Editor/XingWentao
