On September 18, 2022, Unit 13 of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the world's largest hydropower station under construction, which was constructed by China Energy China Gezhouba Electromechanical Company, successfully passed the 72-hour trial operation and was officially put into production. The commissioning of Unit 13 marks that more than half of the power station on the right bank of Baihetan Hydropower Station has been put into commercial operation.
Baihetan Hydropower Station is located on the Jinsha River at the junction of Ningnan County, Sichuan Province and Qiaojia County, Yunnan Province, with a total installed capacity of 16 million kilowatts. The world's largest single-unit capacity of one million kilowatts of hydro-generating units, the 13th unit is the 11th unit that has been put into operation at the Baihetan Hydropower Station.
After the completion of Baihetan Hydropower Station, the annual average power generation will reach 62.443 billion kWh, which can meet the daily electricity demand of about 75 million people, which is equivalent to saving about 19.68 million tons of standard coal and 51.6 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year. It will form the world's largest clean energy corridor with 6 hydropower stations including the Three Gorges, Gezhouba, Xiangjiaba, Xiluodu and Wudongde, effectively alleviating the shortage of electricity in Central China, East China and Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangdong and other provinces.
