Transmission system operator TenneT has announced a tender for large-scale HVDC cables for offshore grid connections in the German North Sea and the Dutch North Sea. In Germany and the Netherlands, TenneT will require at least ten DC cables connecting the systems for wind energy transmission from sea to land. TSO has launched a qualification system for the delivery of a 2GW HVDC offshore platform and HVDC converter system.

TenneT has released its first major EU tender in the offshore industry in June, said Tim Meyerjurgens, Chief Operating Officer of TenneT. The tender focuses on offshore converter platforms and onshore converter stations. This is the first step and now we are following up with another large-scale tender for our innovative 525kV cable system. Together, the two tenders provide a comprehensive and specific action plan to further accelerate the expansion of the offshore grid in the North Sea as a European wind farm. With our new 2GW standard for offshore grid connection systems, we have a blueprint for this grid expansion. Through our framework agreement, we are now initiating the necessary market approach to deliver safely and sustainably on time, scope and budget.

Under the tender, TenneT plans to enter into a second collaboration with key market partners for up to eight years. The agreement covers the laying of 525kV submarine cables between the North Sea offshore converter platform and the coast, as well as underground cables from the coast to the onshore converter station.

Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium have agreed to jointly install at least 65 GW of offshore wind by 2030. At 40 GW, TenneT accounts for nearly two-thirds of that, with Germany and the Netherlands 20 GW each in the North Sea. On top of that, energy ministers from North Sea Energy Cooperation and members of the European Commission recently announced a significant increase in their collective ambition to deploy offshore renewable energy by 2050. TenneT said the challenge is enormous, as this new approach will provide growth opportunities and maximum planning security for all supply chains involved. Keywords: engineering news, overseas news

"With our second large-scale EU tender in the summer of 2022, we, as a cross-border transmission system operator, are again providing an important boost to the offshore market in terms of investment security, employment and planned development of resources and supply chains," Meyerjurgens said. . At the same time, the framework agreement secures cable orders for at least ten offshore grid connections in the German and Dutch North Sea for our innovative 2 GW project. We are therefore always looking for new ways of working with industrial partners to meet the challenges of the ambitious maritime expansion goals set by the German and Dutch governments.Editor/XingWentao
