The UAE has commissioned German companies to develop the country's national hydrogen strategy to diversify its energy mix and pursue its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has drawn up an agreement with German global engineering and consulting firm GHD in collaboration with applied research organization Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft to develop its hydrogen energy strategy.
Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said our aim is to see the UAE become the world's leading authority on the role of hydrogen in the energy transition. The UAE and other countries in the MENA region are developing plans to incorporate hydrogen into their energy mix and use the clean fuel for different industrial applications.
As the global hydrogen economy accelerates through technological innovations, partnerships and investment commitments, hydrogen could be a decarbonisation solution, providing multiple opportunities for the power, transport and industrial sectors, said Deputy Education Minister Sharif Olama. Market opportunities. Proper infrastructure, technological readiness and market access must be provided for a booming hydrogen economy, the ministry said.
The ministry said that GHD's partnership with Germany-based Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft to develop the UAE's National Hydrogen Strategy provides a unique opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the UAE and Germany by promoting the Gulf states' net-zero emissions targets.
In 2017, the two countries signed the UAE-Germany Energy Partnership to enhance dialogue and provide a framework for energy transition cooperation. They also established a bilateral hydrogen working group to engage ministries, companies and scientists in a systematic process to promote the hydrogen economy.Editor/XingWentao
